MST 5011 - Museum History and Philosophy

Historical and philosophical roots of museums and emerging philosophical issues faced by museums today - from art, history, science, and youth to living collections, living history sites, and historic houses. Field trips to area museums.
MST 5012 - Museum Practices
(3 cr; Prereq-Grad student or instr consent; A-F or Audit; offered Every Spring)
Practical aspects of museum work. Standards, practices, responsibilities, issues, all set in greater museum context. Curatorial/educational duties, collections management, security, funding, boards, public relations, installation, budgeting.
MST 5020 - Internship
(1 cr [max 6]; Prereq-5011, 5012, dept consent; S-N or Audit; offered Every Fall, Spring & Summer; may be repeated for 32 credits; may be repeated 32 times)
Students arrange to perform a professional-level task in a museum of good standing under close supervision of a member of the museum's professional staff. Instructor must approve a work plan and report.
MST 5170 - Topics in Museum Studies (Topics course)
(1 cr [max 4]; Prereq-grad student; A-F only; offered Periodic Fall & Spring; may be repeated for 4 credits)
In-depth investigation of specific topic, announced in advance.
MST 8993 - Directed Study in Museum Studies
(1 cr [max 4]; Prereq-[5012 or concurrent registration is required (or allowed) in 5012], instr consent, dept consent; A-F or Audit; offered Every Spring & Summer; may be repeated for 16 credits; may be repeated 4 times)
Study by a student, largely self directed with consultation of a faculty member, on a topic not covered (or not covered in depth) by another course. Program of study is determined jointly by student and advising faculty member.
