Electric Propulsion (EP) research at the Air Force Research Laboratory

Electric Propulsion (EP) represents a viable near-term alternative to traditional mono- and bipropellant satellite propulsion systems. The suite of existing EP technologies incorporates a number of different thruster designs at various stages of technological readiness. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the mission enabling nature of EP, the main classes of EP devices, and an introduction to the challenges associated with the modeling of Hall-effect thrusters. There will also be a brief video providing a general overview of the activities at AFRL/RZ-West (Edwards AFB, CA).
