Join us for a discussion with Colonel Pamela Melroy, USAF Ret. and former NASA Astronaut, for CSE students and faculty. Melroy will talk about her background, experiences with USAF and NASA and answer questions.

Colonel Pamela Melroy, USAF, began her career with the Air Force  ROTC program in 1983 and continued on to be a pilot, co-pilot, instructor, aircraft commander, and much more. She has more than 200 hours of combat and combat support under her belt and is a veteran of Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Colonel Melroy was recruited by NASA in 1994 and began her astronaut training in March of 1995. She participated in multiple missions, including being the second woman to command the Space Shuttle on assembly missions to build the International Space Station. She served on the Columbia Reconstruction Team as lead for the crew module and as Deputy Project Manager for the Columbia Crew Survival Investigation Team. In her final position, she served as Branch Chief for the Orion branch of the Astronaut Office. At the end of her NASA career, Colonel Melroy had and spent 924 hours -almost 39 days- in space. In August of 2009, she left the agency and went on to service as Deputy Director, Tactical Technology Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
