Importing Truss Results Files into Excel


This is actually a very simple process. The Results File is a Tab delimited ASCII (that is, plain text) file. This means that any spreadsheet program should be able to easily read it. Using a spreadsheet program is one of the easy ways to do the supplemental calculations on the truss solver results for your design project.

The proceedure for reading the Results File into Excel (v7) is as follows:

If you add formulas to your imported Results File spreadsheet, be sure to save it in Excel Format (*.xls) (the default is Text format) or you will lose all your formulas and formatting.

You may find the lookup function useful in Excel for calculating element lengths.
