Impact of Fragment R from Lowell Observatory -------------------------------------------- A false-color image of Jupiter obtained at 5:44 UT July 21 using a 8900 A methane filter with the Perkins 1.8-m telescope coupled with the Imaging Fabry Perot instrument at Lowell Observatory. The bright feature seen on the lower-left limb of Jupiter was first detected at 5:42 UT, consistent with the detections by numerous IR observers of the fragment "R" fireball. The moon Europa is also visible to the right of the planet. David Schleicher (Lowell Obs.), Mark Wagner (Ohio St. U.), Peter Birch (Perth Obs.), and Siobhan Sackey (N. Arizona U.)
