Particle segregation in aqueous Triton mixtures

Particles which are initially distributed uniformly in a film rimming a rotating cylinder will be drawn into bands. The fluid used here is a solution of ZnCl2, Triton X100 and water. In the following example, the rotational speed is three rpm and the formation of the bands takes hours.
