AEM Alumnus Tom Madison selected for Alumni Achievement Award
The University of Minnesota and the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics recently honored Tom Madison with an Outstanding Achievement Award. The award is given to alumni who have attained unusual distinction and leadership.
Tom Madison has been a respected and successful business and community leader throughout his career. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Aeronautical Engineering program in 1959 and began his career with the phone service company Northwestern Bell. He began their management trainee program and started work as a Service Foreman. Over the course of the next 36 years, Madison rose to the ranks of CEO of Northwestern Bell which would become US West Communications in 1992.
Beyond his work in the corporate world, Madison has dedicated an extensive amount of his time and resources to the greater community. He serves on many educational and community support boards and has maintained a close partnership with the University of Minnesota.
Madison retired from US West in 1992 and started a small business consulting and investments company in Minneapolis, MLM Partners.
