Graduate Student News
The following students successfully completed a degree in the graduate program during the spring semester.
Patrick Wells successfully completed his Masters of Aerospace Engineering with a minor Mechanical Engineering. He worked with Professor Perry Leo.
Abhijit Chakraborty successfully defended and completed his Master of Science in May. He worked with Prof. Gary Balas and his thesis is titled Linear and Nonlinear Analysis of Susceptibility of F/A-18 Flight Control Laws to the Falling Leaf Mode. He will be pursuing his PhD in AEM.
Ganesh Borra completed his Master of Science in January. He worked with Prof. Richard James and Prof. Tom Shield.
Heming Chen successfully defended his Master of Science on May 18th. His thesis is titled Required Action Time in Aircraft Conflict Resolution and he worked with Prof. Yiyuan Zhao. He will be continuing in the program to complete his PhD.
Joel Gonvall completed a Master of Science in May. He works with Prof. Graham Candler and will be pursuing his PhD in AEM.
Shankar Krishnan completed a Master of Science in May. His thesis titled Modelling of Galfenol Nanowires for Sensor Applications was completed under Prof. Richard James. He will continue on to pursue his PhD in AEM.
Hamid Mokhtarzadeh successfully defended his Master of Science on April 28th and completed his degree in May. He worked with Prof. Gary Balas and Prof. Roger Arndt on his thesis, Supercavitating Vehicle Modeling and Dynamics for Control. He will be pursuing his PhD in AEM.
Byron Saari completed a Master of Science on May 7th. He worked with Prof. Gary Balas on his thesis titled Force Control of a Highly Inertial Specimen.
Derrick Tetzman completed a Master of Science on May 7th. He worked with Prof. William Garrard and Prof. Yiyuan Zhao on his thesis titled Simulation and Optimization of Spacecraft Re-entry Trajectories.
Di Wu successfully defended his Master of Science on May 21st. He worked with Prof. Yiyuan Zhao on his final project. He will be pursuing a PhD in AEM.
Chonglin Zhang successfully defended his Master of Science thesis on May 18th. He worked with Prof. Tom Schwartzentruber and his thesis is titled “Adaptive Mesh Refinement and Cut-cell Algorithms for DSMC Simulation of Hypersonic Flows.” He will be continuing in the department to complete his PhD.
Dr. Juan Carlos Padrino Inciarte successfully completed his Doctor of Philosophy in February. He worked with Professor Daniel D. Joseph on his thesis titled Topics in Viscous Potential Flow of Two-Phase Systems.
Dr. Yiming Wu completed a Doctor of Philosophy in May. He worked with Prof. Thomas Shield and his thesis is titled Austenite-Martensite Phase Transformation and Magneto-Mechanical Studies on Nickel Manganese Gallium Single Crystal Alloy.
Dr. Guijin Zheng successfully defended and completed her Doctor of Philosophy on April 28th. She worked with Prof. Demoz Gebre Egziabher and her thesis is titled Methods for Enhancing Carrier Phase GNSS Positioning and Attitude Determination Performance.
Finally, we'd like to congratulate the following students who passed their Doctoral Preliminary Oral Exam: Arnar Hjartarson, Mike Mattson, Rohit Pandita, Hyun Chul Jang, Zhaodan Kong, Navid Dadkhah Tehrani, Narina Jung and Matthew Bartkowicz. They have successfully passed the last exam required for their qualification in the PhD program.
