AEM spotlight:

Graduate Student News

The following students successfully completed a degree in the graduate program during the fall semester.

Andrei Dorobantu successfully completed his Master of Science degree.  His thesis was titled “Time Delay Margin Analysis for Adaptive Flight Control Laws.” He worked with Professor Gary Balas.  He will continue on in the department to pursue his PhD.

Wei Guo successfully completed her Master of Science degree.  Her thesis was titled “Optimal UAV Flights for Seeability and Endurance in Winds.”  Her professor was Professor Yiyuan Zhao and Professor William Garrard.  She will continue working with Prof. Zhao to pursue her PhD in the department.

Christopher Matthews completed his Master of Science degree.  His thesis was titled, “Personal Navigation Using a Kinetic Model of Human Gait.”  He worked with Professor Demoz Gebre-Egziabher. 

Ahmet Arda Ozdemir successfully completed his Master of Science degree.  He will continue his work with Prof. Gary Balas as he moves on to pursue his PhD.
Aman Verma completed his Master of Science Plan B in September.  He will continue working with Professor Krishnan Mahesh to pursue his PhD. 

Sriram Doraiswamy completed his Doctor of Philosophy in November.  Working with Professor Graham Candler he completed his thesis titled, “Computational Study of Nonequilibrium Chemistry in High Temperature Flows.”  He continues to work with Professor Candler as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate.

Vladimyr Gidzak completed his Doctor of Philosophy in November with Professor Graham Candler as his adviser.  His thesis was titled “A Method of Simulating Fluid Structure Interactions for Deformable Decelerators.”  He will continue to work with Professor Candler as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate.

Rohit Pandita completed his Doctor of Philosophy with Professor Gary Balas as his adviser.  His thesis was titled, “Dynamic Flight Envelope Assessment with Flight Safety Applications.” 

Paolo Valentini completed his Doctor of Philosophy.  His thesis titled, “Atomic-level Simulation of Gas-Surface Interactions and Hypersonic Flow Features.  He completed this work with Professor Tom Schwartzentruber.  Paolo will continue working with Prof. Schwartzentruber as a Post-Doctoral Associate.

Zhiqiang Xing completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Ocotober.  His thesis titled, “Over-bounding Integrated INS/GNSS Output Errors.”  His adviser was Demoz Gebre-Egziabher.  He will continue working with Professor Gebre-Egziabher as a Post-Doctoral Associate.

Finally, we'd like to congratulate the following students who passed their Doctoral Preliminary Oral Exam: Xiaochuan Chai, Ross Wagnild, Shankar Krishnan, Abhijit Chakraborty, Heming Chen, Di Wu, Paul Norman, and Chonglin Zhang. They have successfully passed the last exam required for their qualification in the PhD program.
