AEM & MN Space Grant in MN Aviation Week, Sept. 16-22

AEM and Minnesota Space Grant are participating in Minnesota Aviation Week September 16-22, 2012. Bob Cabana, head of the Kennedy Space Center is launching Minnesota's first annual celebration of Minnesota Aerospace & Aviation Week, which is part of National Aerospace Week (September 16 - 22). Mr. Cabana will speak Tuesday, September 18, 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. at Base Camp, Fort Snelling on NASA, Our Path to the Future & the Importance of STEM Education. The week’s kick-off event involved the teaming up of the Minnesota Twins and AirSpace Minnesota during the game on Sunday, September 16. Mr. Cabana and AEM students launched a baseball from Target Field 80,000 feet into the stratosphere via weather balloon. The week's events also include Workforce Day (Friday, September 21), when organizations will host workplace tours and presentations for students and teachers and/or visit local schools. The culminating event is on Flight Day (Saturday, September 22), when flights, balloon and rocket launches will be held for students, teachers and families in local communities.

Minnesota Aviation Week is the first initiative of AirSpace Minnesota,, a new nonprofit created to showcase Minnesota's aerospace & aviation achievements and impact - past and present. Airspace Minnesota will commemorate Minnesota's extraordinary legacy in these essential industries, promote skill-building for students and showcase the exciting work being performed by today's innovators.
