Professor Filippo Coletti Named McKnight Land-Grant Professor
Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics Professor Filippo Coletti has been named a 2018-2020 McKnight Land-Grant Professor. This grant is awarded to assistant professors who are at an important point in their professional careers. Recipients are granted $25,000 for both years of their award to use towards expenses related to their work and research.
Professor Coletti’s research focuses on the transport of airborne particles in the environment and in the respiratory system. With respiratory diseases being the second leading cause of death in the world, understanding the impact of airborne pollutants on the lungs is essential. Coletti uses high-speed cameras and medical imaging to track particles as they travel and settle in turbulent air and within 3D printed replicas of the human airways, both healthy and diseased.
