Analysis of Nonlinear Systems using Sum-of-Squares Optimization

The talk will be split into two parts. The first part of the talk will give an overview of research projects being done in the Guidance and Control Group at the Honeywell Labs. In particular, the flight control systems for Boeing 777/787 and the collision avoidance system for an RMAX helicopter will be discussed. The second part of the talk will focus on using sum-of-squares optimization to analyze the performance of polynomial systems. The proposed method uses simulation data to intelligently construct Lyapunov function candidates. Sum-of-squares optimization is then used to compute provable regions-of-attraction based on these candidates. The long term objective of this research is to develop performance and robustness tools for nonlinear systems.
