Kolmogorov Turbulence

Abstract

The classical Kolmogorov inertial range turbulence theory is derived from first principals by analysis of the Navier-Stokes equation using a method of matched asymptotic expansions (essentially boundary layer theory). Reynolds number dependent corrections to the one-third power laws are found which agree with experiment.
