This course is designed to help MLK students transition into the University of Minnesota and the College of Liberal Arts. The course will include various opportunities to engage, create, and reflect on your own unique experiences and identify effective strategies, skills, and tools to be successful in your first year and beyond.
MLK 1002 - CLA First-Year Experience II
(1 cr; S-N only; offered Every Spring)
Equivalent courses: CLA 1002H (inactive), CLA 1002
This course is designed to help MLK students achieve their individual goals by promoting proactive educational and career planning, introducing CLA's Core Career Competencies, and encouraging students to reflect on how they are developing them in their first year.
MLK 3000 - MLK Immersion Experience (Topics course)
(3 cr; A-F only; offered Periodic Spring)
Students will engage in investigating and interrogating truths from the Civil Rights Movement as they read and listen to stories from past and present day civil rights leaders. Students will investigate the origin story of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while making connections to the geographical location of his story in Atlanta and Memphis. Students will also connect to significant locations of the Civil Rights Movement with the culmination of the trip being in Selma, Alabama.
