A wave equation approach to the numerical simulation of incompressible viscous fluid flow modelled by the Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:

The main goal of this article is to discuss the numerical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations modelling Newtonian incompressible viscous fluid blow by a methodology combining time discretization by operator-splitting, Stokes solvers a la Uzawa and a wave equation-like treatment of the advection. The numerical results obtained for the classical wall-driven cavity flow problem show that the above methodology, which is fairly simple to implement, yields accurate results even at Reynolds numbers of the order of 10000.
